早在今年年初，羅琳女士曾透露將於今年出版與《哈利波特》無關的新書，日前終於有進一步的消息了：新作名為《The Casual Vacancy》，將於今年九月二十七日出版！新作以成人為讀者對象，全書大約480頁，將在全球同步發行英文的硬皮精裝版、電子書以及有聲書。由於與《哈利波特》的創作方向截然不同，因此也換了新的出版商Little, Brown Company。
